Mr. Schultz’s sculptures are collaborative efforts between sculptor, architect, landscape architect, and other consultant engineers such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, acoustical and electronic. Physicists, astronomers and microscopists are also consultants.
The kinetic solar aspect of many of these forms explores the role of the sun in all aspects of life and specifically, identifies the infinite relationships between systems, humans and the solar energy source. Since all life-giving energy comes from the sun, certain sculptures are a statement of that relationship. Sculpture that takes advantage of “free” energy to activate moving parts makes a revealing statement about the importance of alternative energy sources.
By employing artistic techniques incorporating science and engineering into the aesthetic equation, we can truly stretch to the leading edge of the possible at this stage of our knowledge.
